How can parents stay engaged in their child’s education?

Being a parent and keeping up with your child's education can be a lot of work. We all want to see our child succeed in school by being on the honor roll, getting good grades, and receiving scholarships. Some students are naturally motivated and determined to achieve all these and more. However, we have some students that we need to push and remain engaged in their school academics.

As parents, the school offers parent-teacher conferences four times a year but is that enough to ensure your child is getting good grades?

Here are four tips parents can use to stay more engaged in their child's education:

1. Tip #1 - Emailing teachers frequently

Emailing your child's teacher is very helpful. Emailing your child's teachers allows you to remain more in contact and involved in your child's grades, upcoming assignments, and behavior. Some teachers are willing to provide you with weekly updates on your child's performance.

2. Tip #2 -Visit the school

Visiting the school is an essential aspect of increasing your involvement in school. School visit allows you to interact with your child's teacher and let them know your child's education matters. Additionally, your child will be more willing to keep their grades up to prevent you from visiting all the time.

3. Tip #3- Ask the teacher for extra credit or if your child can redo an assignment

Many teachers are willing to help your child improve their grades. Redoing an assignment can effectively boost your child from a C to a B or even more. Next, your child can learn to identify their weakness in preparation for an upcoming test.

4. Tip #4 -Checking your child attendance

Checking your child's attendance online is useful! First, this allows you to identify if they are arriving late to class, skipping, or somewhere else in the school. Students tend to stop in the hallway to speak to a friend or another teacher, which can impact them missing out on the lecture.

Staying involved with your child's education can be a handful, you don't have to do it alone. At KTS learning, your child's education is our concern.
